Green Organizations

As seen in the San Diego Union-Tribune, May 21, 2021:

"A new county office will focus on areas of San Diego most affected by pollution, health disparities and the effects of climate change," writes Deborah Sullivan Brennan. The office will "address high pollution areas and make sure that efforts to address climate change don’t come at the expense of poor and minority communities."

San Diego Green New Deal Alliance

We need a San Diego Green New Deal!

Our region is not on track to meet climate targets that represent the minimum action needed to secure a safe and livable future.

Recent climate science reports, including the landmark United Nations IPCC Report, say we need to go beyond what local and state laws commit us to — we need a plan to reach net-zero emissions.

At Urban Patchwork, we work with thousands of neighbors throughout Austin to map edible trees and turn under-utilized private and public spaces into productive urban gardens and farms, educational spaces, and activity centers.

Through this effort, we strengthen and beautify our communities, expand our food system’s reach, and reduce the environmental impact of landscaping and agriculture.

The Cynthia and George Mitchell Foundation, with offices in Austin and The Woodlands, TX, is a mission‐driven grantmaking foundation that seeks innovative, sustainable solutions for human and environmental problems. The foundation works as an engine of change in both policy and practice in Texas by supporting high-impact projects at the nexus of environmental protection, social equity, and economic vibrancy.

Our Current Areas of Funding:

At EarthShare Oregon, our mission is to provide a convenient way for Oregonians to support groups working for the environment.

Throughout Oregon and southwest Washington, EarthShare Oregon has engaged thousands of people and raised millions of dollars to support Oregon's environmental legacy of clean water, fresh food, sustainable communities, healthy families, and access to nature.

EarthShare Oregon does this by partnering with workplaces large and small to offer employees several ways to connect with nature.

At Toxics Action Center, we believe everyone has the right to clean air and clean water, that our communities should be sustainable and that our government should operate responsively and democratically.

Our children should be able to grow up free of exposure to dangerous chemicals and with every opportunity to thrive.

Yet too often, these fundamental rights are ignored or bypassed, endangering the health of both people and the environment.

At The Resiliency Institute, we use permaculture education, growing food projects, and community engagement to build resilient communities.

WHAT WE DO

We offer courses in permaculture, herbalism, edible wild plants, homesteading, and more. Some courses are over the course of a year, others are evening courses or weekend hikes.

We host Permablitz events at our Growing Food Security edible forest gardens and potlucks on the farm to view films, swap seeds, or celebrate community.

Rescue a Reef is the University of Miami’s coral restoration program, designed to support research and revival activities to save local staghorn coral populations on Miami’s coral reefs. Rescue A Reef expeditions are led by UM researchers, and provide a unique, hands-on education experience for recreational divers and snorkelers to participate in coral restoration efforts.

Our mission is to educate and engage the local community, increase scientific literacy in coastal and coral reef conservation, and foster ocean stewardship.

The Colorado Water Trust is committed to completing projects that put real water back in rivers and streams across Colorado. In our brief history, we’ve restored approximately 9 billion gallons of water to 316 miles of streams and rivers in Colorado.

WHY WE'RE NEEDED

For over 150 years, Colorado’s water allocation system has focused on taking water out of rivers. When the Colorado Water Trust was founded in 2001, our job was to prove that this same system could also restore depleted river flows—bringing back ecosystems and making life better for wildlife and humans both.

BikeDenver’s mission is to provide all in Denver with the opportunity to bike safely and conveniently. We compile and share bike lane data to help improve street design and code enforcement, teach families how to get to school safely, help businesses add bike racks, hold regular Group Rides and teach Urban Commuter Classes.
