North Branch Restoration Project – Because nature in a metropolis needs help
Remarkably, the Chicago metropolitan area contains some of Illinois’ largest and best remnants of our native eco-systems. That’s where the volunteers of North Branch Restoration Project come in, gathering at scheduled sites to restore health to our local Forest Preserves by cutting brush, pulling weeds, gathering and sowing seeds.
By removing introduced weeds and invasive brush, we reduce competition that threatens native plants.
Collecting and scattering seeds of native species, we restore the grasses and wildflowers to places where they’ve died out.
