The Lurie Garden – An Urban Model of Responsible Horticulture in Millennium Park
The Lurie Garden in Millennium Park is an urban oasis emerging from a harmonious blend of symbolism, landscape design and ecological sensitivity.
Our plant, animal, and insect life are managed using a combination of traditional gardening knowledge and forward-thinking ecological concepts. We use management practices rooted in natural-areas ecology, specifically the strategy of adaptive co-management. Use of synthetic chemicals or similar substances within the garden to manage weeds, pest insects or diseases does not occur.
The park also provides education in public engagement, responsible gardening practices, and stewardship of its iconic landscape design.
