Roots Cooperative - An Eco-Conscious, Non-Hierarchical Austin Community
We are a community cooperative here in Austin with a focus on environmental sustainability and community building.
ABOUT US
Roots was founded by ten activists from the Occupy movement. We take a strong stand for social and environmental equality by gaining awareness of societal-generated oppression and by creating a new standard for non-hierarchical relationships.
We are striving to grow as much of our own food as we can and to learn more about sustainability while trying to be less dependent on structures within our society that we all take for granted.
We are governed through a consensus process and highly value communication.
Cats, dogs, people, chickens and the occasional guinea fowl and turkey live here. We have a few raised bed gardens, a hugel mound, wicking beds and an aquaponics system.
We strive to open up the passions of each other with freedom of expression, allowing each individual to blossom while creating a stronger blueprint of how a coop should walk and talk.
We are affiliated with the Fellowship for Intentional Community and are are open to new members.
