Sauvie Island Agriculture Education Center

The Sauvie Island Center is a nonprofit that provides hands-on educational field trips at Sauvie Island Organics and the surrounding Metro lands.

The Center was co-founded In 2005 by Sauvie Island Organics’ founder Shari Raider along with Portland chef Cory Schreiber. Their vision was to bring farm-based education opportunities to Portland area kids.

The curriculum teaches kids about farms, the food they grow and the landscape in which they exist. Born out of a unique partnership between farmers, educators and culinary professionals, the Sauvie Island Center has educated more than 15,000 youth since 2005.

Are you passionate about gardening, nature or working outdoors with children? If so, consider becoming a Volunteer Farm Educator. Volunteers lead small groups of elementary school students through interactive, hands-on, farm-based lessons on plant life cycles, soil science, pollination and more. Volunteer Farm Educators are essential to the success of our program!

A trip to Sauvie Island Center is a rich and unique opportunity for Portland youth to visit and explore the Sauvie Island Organics Farm and the grounds of Howell Territorial Park, managed by Metro.
