Write a Story. Create the Future

Dreaming a perfect dream? Share it and win up to $3,000.
For its second annual short-story contest, Grist — "a nonprofit, independent media organization dedicated to highlighting climate solutions and uncovering environmental injustices" — is "inviting writers to envision a [climate] future in which solutions soar, and our world is radically better."
The contest, this year called "Imagine 2200: Climate Fiction for Future Ancestors," will accept works between 3,000 and 5,000 words "that envision the next 180 years of climate progress."
Grist continues: "Stories must be set anytime between today and the year 2200, and show a path to a clean, green, and just future. We especially want to read — and share — narratives that center solutions from the communities most impacted by climate change and stories that envision what a truly equitable, decolonized society could look like... Show us the world you dream of building."
The winner will receive $3,000, with second- and third-place prizes of $2,000 and $1,000. Additionally, nine finalists will get $300 each.
The contest is open to writers age 18 years or older at the time of submission, living anywhere in the world. Winning stories will be published in "Fall 2022."
