The University of Florida supports and educates about landscaping
The University of Florida's "Florida Yards & Neighborhoods Program" provides education on the 9 Florida-Friendly Landscaping principles throughout Miami-Dade County to homeowners, landscape maintenance firms, municipalities, and other groups.
The nine principles of Florida-Friendly Landscaping:
1. Right Plant, Right Place
2. Water Efficiently
3. Fertilize Appropriately
4. Mulch
5. Attract Wildlife
6. Manage Yard Pests Responsibly
7. Recycle Yard Waste
8. Reduce Stormwater Runoff
9. Protect the Waterfront

We also offer:
LANDSCAPE IRRIGATION AND REBATE PROGRAM, where Participants can receive rebates for retrofitting the irrigation system to improve water efficiency.
FLORIDA-FRIENDLY YARD RECOGNITION where, after the evaluation, owners of Florida-friendly yards receive a sign to display in the yard and a certificate.
RAIN BARREL PROGRAM - rainwater harvesting workshops to educate Miami-Dade County residents on how to capture rainwater, why it can be beneficial, and how to install a rain barrel in the landscape.
