Rock Creek Environmental Studies Center
The Rock Creek Environmental Studies Center (RCESC) is a natural area within Portland Community College's Rock Creek Campus that is used by:
*local colleges and universities, high schools and grade schools, to take advantage of RCESC for related field courses;
*citizen groups, for nature hikes and volunteer opportunities in habitat-restoration projects.
The natural area includes about 44 acres of woodland, 11 acres of wetland and 44 acres of grasslands. Several smaller unique ecosystems are also present in this site, including several springs and a small pond ecosystem.
Portland Community College's Environmental Studies, Biology and Landscape Technology students are fortunate to have a diverse living laboratory to observe and study within the campus boundaries. All Environmental Studies and Resources courses utilize the RCESC as part of lab classes.
As the largest post-secondary institution in Oregon, PCC serves nearly 78,000 full-time and part-time students. We fill a unique role, one that offers high quality education and opportunities for our students, which in turn contributes to the vibrancy of Portland's economic community.
