HEET provides free, hands-on education in making buildings energy and water efficient
Home Energy Efficiency Team (HEET) is a Cambridge non-profit that develops hands-on opportunities to advance energy-efficiency skills and clean-energy knowledge.
Our core service is organizing Energy-Upgrade Work-Parties, where skilled team leaders teach volunteers how to make a building more energy efficient.
Through having volunteers perform the tasks, using tools and materials available at any hardware store, HEET shows that saving energy is something we all can and should do.
We have a particular commitment to low-income communities. Many non-profits (such as pre-schools, food pantries and community centers) lack the in-house knowledge and resources to repair and operate their buildings efficiently. These non-profits function as the backbone of the the local economy and the wellbeing of the community. HEET helps them save money and reduce energy use.
Typically, over 70% of our volunteers take four or more of the skills we teach back to their homes to reduce energy use there. To date, HEET has taught more than 3,500 volunteers.
