Solar Austin successfully advocates for affordable solar energy
Solar Austin is a chapter of the Texas Solar Energy Society that works to accelerate the transition to clean renewable energy in Central Texas. Our initiatives and advocacy inform the public and our local representatives to make the switch to solar affordable and common.
WHAT WE DO
*We promote policies and programs at the Austin City Council that advance the use of renewable energy and assure that clean energy options and healthy transportation solutions are available to people at all income levels.
*We hold regular public meetings and events designed to educate and engage the public.
Our work to educate Austin City Council members and their staffs about solar energy has made a measurable impact:
• Getting a solar rebate program established at Austin Energy
• Making GreenChoice – Austin Energy’s 100% renewable energy electricity option – a standard offer to utility customers
• Ensuring that the value of solar credit for residential customers is high enough to be an incentive, and much more.
