What is Steve’s Weave all about?
Steve’s Weave is a Green Classified-Ads website that lets you find, buy, sell, and trade goods, services, and information that will help you live more sustainably. On our home page you'll see a bunch of different categories relating to sustainable living and getting involved with the green movement.
Do I need to create an account to find information?
Nope! We encourage people to think global and act local, so your first step should be to choose your home location — state, city, and, if offered, neighborhood. After that, you can browse different sustainability sections or search for topics that interest you. You only need to create an account if you want to post stitches or if you’d like to receive our threads about new posts in your area.
What’s a stitch?
A stitch is the clever term we use for an ad on our site, adding to the overall weave that we hope will represent the global community taking action and helping each other live more sustainably. A stitch has four components:
- A category - this determines the listings page on which your stitch will appear. Choose the category and, if available, the subcategories from the dropdown box. The more precise you make your category, the easier it will be for other folks to find.
- A title - that’s what shows up on the listings pages, up to 255 characters, along with the first line of the body of your stitch.
- A body - this is the real beyond-meat and potatoes of your stitch, where you will provide information and details about your listing. This can include links to external content, contact information, or date and time information for events. You should consider this your opportunity to market your stitch to your community. Think about what your audience might be searching for (SEO), because stitches do show up in search engine results.
- An email address - we don’t share your email address with anyone outside Steve’s Weave, but the email address you enter will allow other Steve’s Weave visitors to contact you through our email notification system. You can also put your email address in the body of your stitch, but then it becomes public.
What does it cost to post an ad on Steve’s Weave?
Nothing! Isn’t it great?
Wait, then how does Steve’s Weave make money?
We don’t!
At least not yet.
Eventually we may charge a nominal fee for specific kinds of stitches that are more commercial in nature, or to improve the quality of the content in a particular category. We may add ads someday, although we’re trying to avoid going down that path. And you can always donate to the cause!
How will people find my stitches?
- People have three ways to find stitches:
- * Search for them on our website
- * Browse to them through our site’s categories
- * Search for them on a search engine — your stitches appear in search engines (like Google and Bing), so that’s a consideration when you’re writing your title and description
- How do people contact me?
Your email address is kept private unless you put it into the body of your stitch (which may, we feel obliged to note, lead to spam). When you're posting a stitch you'll see a Contact field to fill in, which people can use to communicate with you through our email notification system.
What’s the most effective way I can make a Green impact?
Our global climate crisis is particularly nasty because people may not see their contributions making much difference, nor do they see the environmental damage they often inadvertently cause as particularly severe.
But just like the little girl and the starfish, every little bit helps. That means you don’t need to break the bank to have a meaningful impact. Reducing waste, reducing energy consumption, and reducing water usage all contribute to the cause, often without costing anything or even saving you money. Green-inspired political action, including voting, is a magnificent way to move things in the right direction.
