Making Fresh Local Food Available to All: the Urban Oasis Project (Miami)
Urban Oasis Project is a local food promoter and information source operating in Miami-Dade since 2008. We believe that good, clean, healthy food should be accessible to all.
We're present at farmers markets, plant gardens with low-income families, and support many local farms by bringing their produce to markets.
We also run potluck meals focusing on local food, "farmer-direct" dinners, arts events and more.
UOP accepts SNAP benefits and double their value for Florida grown fruits and veggies, and we bring our mobile market to local health centers to support our Fruit and Veggie Prescription (FVRx) clients.
Urban Oasis experiments with all gardening and farming philosophies that do not harm the environment.
We need farmers' market volunteers, especially those who can educate people about fresh vegetables and how to use them.
We also need workday volunteers as we get our hands dirty, sweat, and have a great time creating food gardens and teaching people to garden, especially those living in urban food deserts.
We know you are out there, experimenting with urban homesteading, building amazing projects to grow your own food on your little piece of land. Host a potluck dinner and we'll help!
