Songbird Haven Farm

About the Business

We grow beautiful vegetables by cultivating healthy soil

Songbird Haven Farm is a vegetable and herb farm in Rochester on the ancestral land of the Chehalis, Cowlitz, Cayuse, Umatilla, and Walla Walla people.

We farm in a way that supports habitat for creatures above and below the soil. We use organic growing methods and support soil health by not tilling (i.e., plowing), using lots of compost, growing year-round, and planting a wide variety of crops.

The Farmers

Noa Kay and Mark Albonizio are the family behind Songbird Haven Farm. We believe that human health and environmental health go hand in hand.

Once we learned about all the benefits of no-till agriculture we felt like we had to join in the movement of small farmers relearning regenerative practices and making a real difference in our food systems, local communities, and climate. We are so grateful to the many farmers around the world who have farmed with nature for generations and continued to pass on this knowledge.

Learn about our farming methods

No Till

Living soil organisms form beneficial relationships with crops. We leave these little guys alone to do their thing! We do not plow our fields or even walk on the vegetable beds. To aerate the soil, we use hand tools and rely on earthworms and moles.

Organic Practices

We never spray herbicides or use synthetic fertilizers. We build soil fertility by rotating crops, using certified organic fertilizers if needed, and adding compost. To address pests, we use row cover and foster habitat for birds and beneficial insects. And we minimize weeds by mowing, mulching, using tarps, and hand weeding.

Climate Resiliency

Healthy soils are able to retain water and require fewer inputs. These are just a few of the ways that a healthy soil ecosystem helps us to be resilient in the face of climate change.

Diversity

Diversity is essential for a healthy soil ecosystem. We grow over 80 varieties of vegetables, herbs, and flowers on our farm. In addition to creating a healthy soil ecosystem, this diversity reduces pests and disease.

2025 CSA Registration is Open!

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a lot more than just a delicious bag of vegetables. By making a commitment to purchase produce in the beginning of the season you help our farm to cover the early season expenses.

In turn, we commit to working hard to grow beautiful veggies using organic practices that improve soil health. We harvest your produce as close to delivery as possible and provide you with a newsletter with tips on how to cook with your bounty.

By incorporating locally grown vegetables into your routine, you’ll form a close relationship to the food you eat, the land where it was grown, and the people who cultivated it. You’ll enjoy seasonal produce, knowing that you are contributing to a vibrant farming community and thoughtful environmental stewardship.

How does it work?

This year we will offer a twice a month CSA.

You’ll receive 10 produce deliveries during the season (June – October).

If you’re out of town, you can share your bag with a friend or ask another CSA member to pick it up for you.
