Metamorphic Gear

About the Business

Metamorphic Gear crafts stylish, durable bags and accessories for urban professionals and travelers. Founded by Lindsay Lawrence, a marine carpentry and environmental studies expert with deep roots in the sailing community, the company was inspired by seeing children in Brazil using bags made from repurposed materials. Each product is a blend of artistry and resilience, designed to be easily cleaned and last for years. As a Seattle-based company, all products are handmade and manufactured in the USA.

Sustainability

Metamorphic Gear operates on a “triple bottom line” focused on societal, economic, and environmental impact.

Their core sustainability effort is upcycling, transforming discarded materials like old sails, climbing ropes, and vinyl from the trucking and maritime industries into new, high-quality products. This process reduces the demand for new plastics and raw materials while giving a second life to what would have been waste.

The company’s commitment also extends beyond materials:

  • Manufacturing: They manufacture all products locally in the USA to reduce their carbon footprint.
  • Community: Metamorphic Gear gives back 1% of its profits to non-profit organizations focused on environmental cleanup, such as Surfrider and the Midway Island Trust,
  • Ethical Practices: The company is dedicated to paying livable wages to its employees.
